When your bearings arrive in our repair facility, we begin with a thorough cleaning to evaluate, inspect for wear patterns, and determine the scope of work that will be needed. We then let you know up front, and in writing, what the repair price will be before we begin work.
In some cases, restoration can be accomplished by grinding surface spalls and polishing bearing surfaces. Other bearing assemblies may require grinding of inner bores, bearing cups and cones. If necessary, replacement roller elements are designed and checked for appropriate profiles on our CAD system. Then they are turned on CNC turning centers; ground on custom-designed, computer-controlled grinders; checked for integrity on a Magnaflux; and inspected on a Pratt & Whitney Supermicrometer. Optical comparators check for proper geometries and radii, while coordinate measuring machines confirm surface accuracies up to 50 millionths of an inch. In the extreme case, where repair is not economical, we have the ability to manufacture replacement bearings equal to, or surpassing OEM standards. |
